For Timothy Offray ’09, the future began with a microeconomics course. In Professor of Economics Geoffrey Gilbert’s lectures, Offray was learning about more than just the private sector and inflation, he was learning about himself and his future. As an economics major and a double minor in political science and international relations, he knew that he wanted to pursue a career in marketing. During his junior year, Offray realized that an internship at Mesa International would be the perfect start for his career path. “Considering that I would like to pursue a career in marketing after my education at HWS, this is an excellent opportunity to get exposed to many different aspects of the marketing industry,” Offray said. Mesa International is a small home décor firm that imports plates and other accessories, designs them and then sells them to stores like Coldwater Creek and Costco. As their intern for the summer, Offray is working with their marketing division in Manhattan, conducting marketing research, visiting stores and analyzing the advertizing strategies of Mesa’s competition in addition to working with the designers and accompanying salespeople on sales calls. “It looks to be a challenging summer with a lot of work,” said Offray. “However, I am very excited to learn from the Mesa employees and my experiences working under them.” After his summer internship at Mesa, Offray will continue his path toward a career in marketing with another second internship. In the fall he will work with Career Services Office Associate Director Joe Ambrosetti, performing market research for career services and ensuring that HWS students are more aware of jobs and internships that are available to them. With his future marked and in sight, Offray firmly believes he’s well on his way to attaining the career of his dreams.
