Auditions for the HWS Theatre Program’s spring performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15 and Wednesday, Nov. 16 in the Barn. Students, faculty and staff are invited to audition for “The Game of Love and Chance” directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Christopher Hatch, and “Hedda Gabler” directed by Professor of Education Patrick Collins.
“The Game of Love and Chance,” by the French playwright Pierre de Marivaux, is a three-act romantic comedy. The play follows a young woman worried about her arranged marriage, who disguises herself as a servant in an attempt to truly get to know her fiancé. In an interesting twist, her fiancé decides to also trade places with a servant of his. As the story unfolds, the couple begins to fall in love with who they’re meant to be with. “The Game of Love and Chance” has parts for four men and three women. The performance will take place on Feb. 16 -18 in Bartlett Theatre.
“Hedda Gabler,” a drama by Jon Baits, promises to be a challenging evening of theatre for actors and audience members alike. In this play, the young and independent Hedda Gabler attempts to evade an unfulfilling marriage and sets the stage for a captivating and ultimately disturbing exploration of an individual’s ability to control his or her destiny. This show has roles for three men and four women; it will take place on April 12 -14 in Bartlett Theatre.
Anyone interested in auditioning for either production should have working knowledge of both scripts, each of which are available on reserve in the Warren Hunting Smith Library under THTR 900. Interested members of the HWS community are encouraged to prepare their own monologue to present, however, those without a prepared monologue will be given a text to present.
