Senior Emily D’Addario finished first out of 128 runners and set a new course record at the SUNYIT Invitational in Utica, N.Y. on Saturday. The William Smith cross country team finished in first place at the SUNYIT Invitational in Utica, N.Y., for the fourth year in a row.
D’Addario posted a time of 18:57.1 on the 5-kilometer course, besting her old course record from 2011 of 19:25.00. D’Addario finished 1:04 ahead of the second place finisher from SUNY Potsdam.
Junior Marielle Verni was the second Heron to cross the finish line, posting a new personal best 5k time of 21:10.5 for fifth place. Sophomore Avery Share was right behind her finishing sixth in 21:12.9. Junior K.C. Cronmiller placed ninth overall with a time of 21:45.1, and sophomore Ellen Grenen came in 22nd place, recording a time of 22:37.3 in her first collegiate meet.
The Herons posted 42 team points. SUNY ESF took second overall with 60 points. The Culinary Institute placed third with 125 points.
William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 8 when the Herons compete in the Oswego Invitational which is set to being at 11 a.m.
