Led by Yunn-Shan Ma, the Colleges Community Chorus will perform its fall concert on Wednesday, Nov. 28. The group is made up of approximately 50 singers from the Colleges and the community alike. Student participants include Moriah Murphy ‘15, Danielle Mueller ‘16, Jenny Lee ‘15, Sam Buffum ‘15, Andrew Hellmund ‘14 and German exchange student Kathrin Schumacher in collaboration with student performers from the Eastman School of Music.
Titled Utmost Mozart, the concert is set to feature Mozart: Requiem, K.626, selections from Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, K. 339, and Ave Verum Corpus, K. 618. The performance will be held at 8 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church at 24 Park Place in Geneva.
“The community chorus involves singers with different abilities and backgrounds. With the support of HWS Colleges Chair of the Music Department, Professor Cowles and the collaboration with the Eastman School of Music, the community chorus has been able to perform the great choral works with great soloists and ensembles. Although most of our singers are non-music majors in their lives, we always held high quality performances with great efforts,” Ma says.
Past performances have included works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giacomo Puccini, Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Verdi, Henry Purcell, Franz Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, Giacomo Puccini, Benjamin Britten and Randall Thompson.
The Colleges Community Chorus rehearses Monday evenings from 7-9 p.m. and performs two concerts a year. Students interested in joining the group should contact Professor Bob Cowles for an audition and interested community members should contact Yunn-Shan Ma.
