In the spirit of giving during the holiday season, the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL) distributed gifts on Friday, Dec. 14, as part of the annual Holiday Gift Program held at the Colleges. Colleges students, faculty and staff donated the items.
The gifts were delivered by the CCESL and other HWS community members to local partner organizations on Friday morning, including Family Counseling Service of the Finger Lakes, Geneva Head Start and Geneva Agri-Business Child Development, Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes, and Geneva Center of Concern.
Collected at Trinity Hall, the specially designated contributions included winter clothing, toys, instruments, and books, among numerous other items. The gift program was started to help and support those in need from the local area during the holiday season. The program is an example of the service initiatives often participated in by members of the campus community.
HWS strives to ensure that its graduates can become active and engaged leaders in their respective communities. In support of that objective, the CCESL offers students opportunities to engage in and experience service learning by providing opportunities in which the necessary skills to become a civically engaged, active citizenship are developed.
