The No. 3 Hobart College hockey team improved to 13-1-2 overall with a 2-1 win over Nichols in a non-league game played at the Bisons’ Levy Rink in Burrillville, R.I. on Sunday, January 13. Nichols falls to 10-6-0 this season.
Six different Statesmen picked up a point in the victory. Senior Harry Radovich scored what proved to be the game-winner. Senior goalie Nick Broadwater played 59:30 in goal and finished with 28 saves.
The Bison got on the scoreboard first. At 6:54 in the first, Frank Butler found the back of the net after passes from Steve Lecey and Mike Schwartz.
Hobart evened the score at 12:29 in the opening period. Senior Dave Stevens tapped in his second goal in as many days. Sophomores Ian Coleman and Bronson Kovacs logged the assists. Just 2:37 into the second, Radovich capitalized on the final seconds of a Statesmen power-play scoring on a shot from the point. It was his first goal this season. First-year Mac Olson and senior Frank Salituro set up the play. It proved to be all Hobart would need as they held off the Bison effort for the final period.
The Statesmen enjoyed a 42-29 advantage in shots. Hobart was 1-for-5 on the power-play and killed all four of Nichols’ power-play chances. Alex Larson played 59:30 in goal for the Bison and stopped 40 shots.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 18, when they host Nazareth for an ECAC West game at The Cooler at 7 p.m.
