This weekend, the Geneva music scene will be pitted in a competition for musician supreme in “Battle of the Bands,” held at the Smith Opera House for a good cause – to raise funds to expand the Lakefront Community Playground. On Saturday, Feb. 2, members of the HWS and Geneva communities are invited to attend the event, which will kick-off at 7 p.m.
“This effort is not only fun, but really keeps the energy of the playground project headed in the right direction,” says Director the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning Katie Flowers.
With funds raised from the event, members of the Geneva Community Projects committee hope to install two new additions to the already immensely popular Lakefront Playground. One of these additions, an Omnispinner, is a handicap accessible piece.
Join regional favorites such as MainStream, El Ka Bong and The Shrimps, as they share the stage with HWS band “Call Security,” who will be joined for two songs by special guest President Mark D. Gearan. The celebration of the playground not only promises an evening of great music, but one of great entertainment provided in part by local emcees Michael Rusinko and Dick Austin.
Tickets will be available during lunch in the Scandling Campus Center, and at the Smith Opera House, and online at tickets.thesmith.org. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students; children 12 and under are free.
