The Center for Global Education is seeking applicants for the HWS/Technos Tour to Japan to be held from June 2 – 15. The Japan Study Tour Competition is open to first-year and sophomore students, who will represent the Colleges on a two-week, all-expenses paid tour of Japan. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 1. The program is sponsored by Technos International College in Tokyo and the Tanaka Ikueikai Educational Trust. The HWS students will be accompanied by a faculty member.
Participants will visit classes at Technos International College and interact with its students and faculty. Numerous other academic, cultural and social activities are planned. The program promotes international exchange and understanding on the campus of Technos International College as well as offer groups the opportunity to experience and appreciate Japanese life and culture.
The program sponsor requests that student participants be selected based on the following criteria: a demonstrated interest in Japan and its people, culture and history; an excellent academic record; a willingness to meet people from different racial and cultural backgrounds and experience aspects of Japanese culture, living conditions and cuisine which may be foreign; no previous travel experience in Japan, as well as no or limited Japanese language skills; must be citizens of the United States of America, European Union, New Zealand or a country whose citizens are permitted similar visa waiver conditions for short-term entry to Japan; and a willingness and commitment to contribute to follow-up activities on the HWS campus to share the Technos experience with the wider community.
Students who are interested should stop by the Office of Global Education in Trinity Hall to pick up an application form as soon as possible. The form must be turned in by March 1, along with an essay and a letter of recommendation. Students who are enrolled in Japanese language courses or other coursework pertaining to Japan will be given some priority in consideration.
