Call Security, a band comprised of five HWS students, has been selected as one of 10 bands to perform in the 2013 Battle of the Bands competition on Friday, May 24 at the Saratoga Springs Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
The band will take the stage at 7:40 p.m. on the Spa Little Theater stage.
Call Security, among 38 bands, auditioned via video submission to land one of the 10 slots for the competition. The band is enthused and grateful to have been selected.
“We’re extremely ecstatic,” says Tucker Jennings ‘14, the band’s drummer. “Being able to play on such a renowned stage while meeting other up-rising local bands and expanding our audience is very exciting.”
The winner of this year‘s competition will be awarded the opportunity to perform at Webster Hall in New York City, 25 hours of studio recording time, airplay on northeast radio station WEQX-FM, and custom T-shirts and merchandise from Saratoga Statement.
The band is composed of Jennings on the drums, Kathryn Middleton ’14 on keyboard, Michelle Poulin ’15 on guitar, Ben Scheibel ’14 on vocals and Peter Keller ‘15 on bass. The group recently released its first six-song EP which is available on Facebook. They plan to complete their first full album within a year.
Inspired by the likes of Blink 182, the Killers, and Mumford and Sons, the alternative rock band took formation in 2011 and has played numerous shows on campus, highlighted by its performance as the opening act for Passion Pit at the Smith Opera House in May of 2012.
“We owe the Colleges all the gratitude in the world,” says Keller. “The HWS community has had our back from the beginning which has really served as a springboard for us… we truly appreciate all the local support.”
