In its first race of the season, the Hobart College cross country team finished sixth out of 12 teams at the SUNYIT Invitational. Senior Wes Traub was the first Statesman to cross the finish line, completing the 6-kilometer course in 20:53 to take 24th of 134 runners.
First-year Cal Randle was the next Hobart runner to finish. He claimed 30th in 21:14. First-year Michael Ledyard recorded a time of 21:32 for 35th place, and classmate Jesse Schaffer was right behind him in 36th place with a time of 21:37. First-year Daniel Klementowski finished in 22:52 for 61st place.
SUNYIT’s Derek Struck broke his own course record, taking first place with a time of 19:39. SUNY-ESF captured the team title with 33 points. Utica took second with 65 team points and SUNYIT took third with 76.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 7, when they compete in the Oswego Invitational at noon.
