The William Smith College cross country team opened the 2013 season with a third place finish at the SUNYIT Invitational. Junior Avery Share led the Herons, placing 10th out of 143 runners.
Share completed the 5-kilometer course in 21:26. Utica’s Ashton Villeneuve captured first place in 19:27. Oswego took first of the 12 teams at the meet with 45 team points and the Pioneers finished second with 62. The Herons rounded out the top three teams with 83 points.
Junior Ellen Grenen was the second William Smith runner to cross the finish line. She clocked a time of 21:30. First-year Mary Kubinski took 15th in her first collegiate race, recording a time of 21:40. Senior Meghan Gaucher finished in 21:55 to take 19th place. First-year Sara Keller rounded out the top five Heron runners, claiming 27th in 22:06.
William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 7, when it competes in the Oswego Invitational at 11 a.m.
