Hobart College senior running back Steven Webb was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week presented by Scoutware. He ran for a career-high 207 yards in the No. 7 Statesmen’s 30-7 season-opening win at Dickinson College.
Webb was not brought down behind the line of scrimmage on any of his 19 carries, averaging 10.9 yards per rush. He took his second handoff of the day 51 yards for a touchdowns and later added TD runs from 1 and 14 yards out. Webb produced 80 more rushing yards than the Red Devils as a team. Add in a 15-yard reception and Webb had 222 yards of total offense. Dickinson managed just 204 yards of total offense.
Webb’s rushing total is the most by a Statesman since Doug Blakowski ’07 ran for 214 yards at Merchant Marine on Oct. 14, 2006, while Webb’s average per carry marked the highest by a Hobart player since Jack Holleran ’05 averaged 11.4 against Dickinson on Sept. 14, 2002.
This is the first time Webb has been named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week.
Saturday marked Webb’s ninth career 100-yard rushing game and third in a row. He was also named the Liberty League Co-Offensive Performer of the Week.
Ranked No. 7 in the nation in the first D3football.com poll of the season, Hobart (1-0) is off this week. The Statesmen will make their 2013 Boswell Field debut on Saturday, Sept. 21, when they host Utica (1-0). The Homecoming game is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m.
