Hobart and William Smith’s traditional Fall Nationals has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19, at 5 p.m. on William Smith Hill. The race was originally scheduled to take place during Homecoming and Family Weekend but was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Fall Nationals is a competition between faculty, staff, and students to see whose homemade cars can hold up as they glide down William Smith Hill in pursuit of the Championship Trophy.
Member of Hobart Student Government and William Smith Congress are coordinating the soap box derby and encourage all participants to get to the parking lot outside of Winn-Seeley by 4:30 p.m., so they can organize and have a safety inspection. Everyone participating will need a bicycle helmet (at minimum) and a steerable/drivable kart equipped with working brakes.
Groups that are expected to race include members of Bampton House, William Smith Congress, Campus Activities Board, Hobart Deans, Druids, Interfraternity Council, and others.
As for parking restrictions, all vehicles in the Miller parking lot opposite the Barn must be moved by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18. Cars can be moved from the Miller lot to the Barn lot, Odell’s South lot or JPR lots. The Miller Lot will reopen at approximately 8 p.m. Saturday evening after the event. Vehicles not moved will be towed.
Also, access to Winn-Seeley Drive will be restricted beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 through approximately 8 p.m.
