This year’s fall Day of Service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 12 to 4 p.m. Volunteers are asked to meet on the Quad at noon before heading to more than a dozen sites across the Greater Geneva area. Volunteers will be provided with lunch and a free T-shirt.
The Colleges host four Days of Service each year, the first of which is at Orientation and introduces incoming students to many local organizations and service opportunities, and the others take place throughout the year. The Day of Service event in the fall provides valuable time and labor to local groups in need of fall cleanup and preparations for winter.
This year’s opportunities include cleaning and maintenance for such sites as the Boys and Girls Club, St. Peters Church, Geneva Women’s Club, Beverly’s Animal Shelter and the Geneva Public Library. Volunteers may also be assigned to help plant mums and spring bulbs at Gulvin Park, help out at the Phelps Community Center’s Annual Harvest Festival, or with preparations for the GFSA Great Pumpkin Walk.
For more information about the Day of Service and volunteer opportunities, please contact the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The next Day of Service will take place on Jan. 24, 2014 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The service outreach is part of the Geneva 2020 initiative launched between the Geneva School District and HWS.
