Grace Maccarone ’74 had her illustrated children’s book, “Princess Tales: Once Upon a Time in Rhyme with Seek-and-Find Pictures,” published this fall by Feiwel & Friends, an imprint of MacMillan Publishers.
Written for children ages 4 to 6, the book features 10 of the most beloved princess stories in children’s literature. The narratives are retold by Maccarone, with the accompanying illustrations by Gail de Marcken. Included among these well-known tales are: “Cinderella,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “The Princess and the Pea,” and “Snow White.” There also are cleverly hidden details within the book’s illustrations.
The newest of Maccarone’s publications, “Princess Tales: Once Upon a Time in Rhyme with Seek-and-Find Pictures,” gained praise from Publishers Weekly, which called it, “…a splendid reimagining of favorite stories.”
In addition, a review in The Wall Street Journal notes, “These are paintings to pore over: depictions of familiar fairy tales in sometimes unusual settings that are each filled with tiny seek-and-find details… The accompanying text by Grace Maccarone rattles along in droll rhyme that is a pleasure to read aloud.”
A children’s book editor and author, Maccarone works for Holiday House, Inc. She worked as an editor at Scholastic and has many books out. She has nine children’s books, all of which are available in the alum section of The College Store at HWS.
At the Colleges, Maccarone earned a B.A. in English and art history.
