Senior Dillon Sass finished fifth in a field of 50 golfers to lead Hobart College in the 36-hole Palamountain Invitational. On the McGregor Links Country Club par 72, 6,581-yard layout, he finished the tournament five over par, five strokes off the lead.
Sass shot a four over 76 in Friday’s first round, putting him in a tie for 13th place. On Saturday, he shot a career-best 73, tied for the second best, second round score. Junior Eric Mills was the second Statesman in the clubhouse, posting rounds of 81 and a season-low 80 to tie for 25th place. Junior Billy Abrams (79-80) and senior Ben Ayres (87-83) completed Hobart’s team score.
St. Lawrence’s Jack Whelan was the individual medalist following a one-under opening round with a one-over closing 18.
Rensselaer (297-311-608) took the team title by four strokes over host Skidmore (301-311-612). Hobart (323-325-648) was eighth in the nine-team tournament, two strokes behind seventh place Castleton (315-331-646) and three better than SUNY Cobleskill (323-328-651).
The Statesmen will wrap up their spring slate in the Oswego State Invitational on April 26 and April 27.
