Sara Winant ’15 is interning this summer for MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski. Mika and her team have recently launched a new brand- Know Your Value. Her second book, “Knowing Your Value: Women, Money, and Getting What You’re Worth,” encourages women to recognize the value they bring to a company and provides them with strategies and advice to effectively communicate their worth, and get the compensation they deserve.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to work people who value the opinions of their employees. It is rewarding to work in an environment that encourages independence and creativity. During my time with the Know Your Value brand, I’m most excited to start realizing my own value. Having the opportunity to recognize my strengths and grow my confidence in the work place will be incredibly valuable for the future,” Winant says.
Winant is working with the company’s brand management team on organizing the Know Your Value brand and its website. Additionally, Winant helps out with day-to-day needs, whether that’s updating the inventory information or making sure schedules are up to date.
“My experiences at HWS have definitely helped me during my internship. Going to a place like Hobart and William Smith encourages students to be self driven, interdisciplinary thinkers, and strives to produce leaders while working in a collaborative setting. All of that has definitely been helpful while working with the Know Your Value brand. Working on the Know Your Value brand has continued to further the skills I have obtained at the Colleges.”
As a history major and theatre minor, Winant is also in the HWS Teacher Education Program. On campus, she is part of the group Colleges against Cancer and served as advocacy co-chair for the program, a tour guide for the Office of Admissions, a member of the a cappella group Perfect Third, and of the HWS Chorale and Cantori singing groups.
“Upon leaving HWS, I am planning to go into teaching. I would love to take all I am learning here and then be able to bring that knowledge to an even younger generation. So whether it be in the classroom or the work force, my students will know how much they have to offer and how to effectively use that to their advantage.”
