HWS Hosts 10 Games this Weekend

In a busy weekend for HWS athletics, the Heron and Statesmen basketball, ice hockey and squash teams will play a total of 10 home games.

William Smith basketball (6-6, 0-5) kicks off a Liberty League weekend in Bristol Gymnasium against Bard on Friday evening at 5 p.m. Hobart basketball (9-3, 4-1) will take the court next at 7 p.m. also taking on the Raptors. The Statesmen return to Bristol Gym after a 10-game road trip, capped by a 69-57 Liberty League win against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Jan. 9.

Also on Friday night, Hobart ice hockey (8-3-4, 5-1-2) will play Babson at The Cooler at 7 p.m. The team is back in Geneva after playing five straight road games. The Statesmen will also host UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Both match-ups are New England Hockey Conference games. Hobart is ranked No. 9 in the latest D3hockey.com poll and was voted No. 11 in this week’s USCHO.com poll. The Statesmen rank second in the league in both scoring offense (3.40 g/gm) and scoring defense (2.00 ga/gm).

Saturday’s games will begin in the Smith Squash Center, as Hobart squash (8-3) faces Dickinson at 1 p.m. The team is ranked 25th in the latest College Squash Association Team Rankings. William Smith squash (5-3) will play its first match of 2018 against Dickinson also at 1 p.m. The Herons are ranked No. 23 by the CSA.

Meanwhile, William Smith basketball will be back on the court on Saturday to play Skidmore at 1 p.m., followed by Hobart basketball against the Thoroughbreds at 4 p.m.

Saturday night, William Smith ice hockey (8-3-3, 4-0-2) will take its turn on the ice, as the Herons kick off a weekend UCHC series against Lebanon Valley at 7 p.m. They will play the Dutchmen again on Sunday at 4 p.m.
