A Race Against Cancer

For more than 10 years, the Great Heron Road Race has raised money in the fight against breast cancer. This year, on Saturday, April 25, the 12th Annual Great Heron Road Race and one-mile Fun Walk invite you to take steps to continue the fight for charity.

The event organizer and Assistant Director of William Smith Athletics, Sally Scatton, recognizes the wonderful support from HWS and the local community in the past, and notes that the focus of the event has shifted over the past few years.
Originally, all donations had been given to a variety of cancer organizations, including the American Cancer Society; this year, race proceeds will be donated to Embrace Your Sisters and the Finger Lakes Breast Cancer Support Group, two local organizations.

“Many of us have been touched, directly or indirectly, by breast cancer,” says Scatton. “We’re all trying to make a difference.”

The race, which is sponsored by William Smith Athletics, will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, with check-in and registration from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the Hobart and William Smith Sport and Recreation Center.

The entry fee is $15 for pre-registration, $20 after April 20. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 300 registered runners and first 50 registered walkers.
