In honor of the victims of the tragedy in Tucson, Ariz., the American flag on the HWS campus will be flown at half-mast until sunset Friday, Jan. 14.
The Colleges’ observance is in line with the presidential proclamation issued by President Barack Obama who ordered flags to be flown at half-mast on all official U.S. buildings.
“As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated… in Tucson, Arizona… I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds,” reads the proclamation.
Obama issued the proclamation following the Jan. 8 shooting that left six dead, at least 14 others injured and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in critical condition. The shooting occurred during a constituent event organized by Giffords called “Congress on Your Corner.”
“It will be a time for us to come together as a nation in prayer or reflection, keeping the victims and their families closely at heart,” said Obama in a statement.
