The William Smith College tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over visiting Wells College in its first home match of the spring. The Herons logged their fourth straight 9-0 victory.
William Smith swept Sioux Falls, Hamline and Calvin on their spring break trip to Orlando last week. The Herons are now 5-1 overall.
Seniors Jess McCue and Katie Serock defeated their Express opponents 8-0 at the top doubles spot. The pair improved to 3-0 in dual matches this season. Sophomores Casey Nicoletti and Kate O’Connor breezed to an 8-1 win at No. 2, and first-years Katie Drinkwater and Kathleen Kennedy also notched an 8-1 victory at No. 3.
Senior Casey Kennedy improved to 4-2 at No. 1 singles this season blanking Chika Taguchi 6-0, 6-0. Junior Remy Raevsky and Drinkwater also registered 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively. It was Drinkwater’s first collegiate singles victory. First-year Haley Wolf is now a perfect 4-0 in dual matches, posting a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 this afternoon. Serock recorded her second win of the day 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, and Kathleen Kennedy earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5.
The Herons will be back in action on March 28, when they host Rochester at 4 p.m.
