The Cellar Pub will host Julia Nunes, singer-songwriter and ukulele plucking YouTube sensation, at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 20, as part of the Smith Opera House’s Club Series.
Hailing from Fairport, N.Y., Nunes gained popularity on YouTube with millions of hits to her ukulele performances of songs by the Beatles, Destiny’s Child, and Queen. Currently her most popular video is the classic, “Build me up, Buttercup,” originally released in 1968 by The Foundations.
Nunes also writes her own music and has released five EPs, available for MP3 download on Amazon.com. Actress Molly Ringwald has been quoted as saying that she took up learning the ukulele because she was inspired by Nunes. An online blog review of Nunes latest EP “Settle Down” for Sound and Vision magazine called Nunes “the future of talented artists” and “a new breed of musicians, one that’s a skilled marketer and adept at social media.”
Tickets for Nunes’ performance are $15. Tickets are free for the first 25 HWS students. Check out more Julia Nunes on her Youtube page at: http://www.youtube.com/user/jaaaaaaa?ob=4&feature=results_main.
