WS Sailors Qualify for ICSA Women’s National Semifinals

William Smith College sailors captured fifth place in the MAISA Women’s Spring Dinghy in Ithaca, N.Y., over the weekend, qualifying for a spot in the ICSA Women’s National Semifinals in late May. HWS also finished 11th at the Admiral’s Cup in Kings Point, N.Y.
In Ithaca at the conference championship regatta, senior Arielle deLisser, sophomore Allison Aughtry and junior Liana Folger finished in fourth place in the A Division. The Herons finished their final eight races in the top four and earned three wins. In the B Division, seniors Brooke Lyon and Adele Huffine took fifth place. The pair logged five top five finishes.
The top six finishers at the event earned a spot in the national semifinals. Georgetown took first place. The Naval Academy came in second, and Old Dominion finished third. Cornell captured fourth place and Fordham rounded out the qualifying teams finishing sixth. The ICSA Women’s National Championship event will be held March 27-30 in Annapolis, Md. The semifinals take place on the first two days (May 27 and 28), with teams advancing to the championship races which will be held the May 29 and 30.
In Kings Point, N.Y., HWS finished with 385 points and tied with Harvard. The Colleges edged the Crimson in the head-to-head tie break. In the A Division, sophomore Eddie Cox and senior Jane Rew finished seventh. The pair earned five top four finishes. In the B Division, junior Elliott Morrill, senior Julia Oak and first-year Adam Schaefer placed 12th. They earned two first place finishes. First-year Sean Burke sailed to an eighth place finish in the C Division. He placed in the top three, three times, earning one win.
HWS will be back on the water April 26-27, when it competes in the America Trophy in Kings Point, N.Y.
