McGowan speaks at SMU dinner

Daniel McGowan, HWS professor emeritus of economics, was the keynote speaker at the United for Peace and Justice Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

In his speech, titled “'Der Judenstaat’ Ist Tot” (The Jewish State is Dead), he spoke about the state of the affairs in the Middle East, maintaining that there is no Jewish state in Palestine.

He claimed that in the land controlled by Israel the demographics show a diverse population. “There is no occupation; what exists is a form of Zionist apartheid, unlike the petty apartheid which prevailed in South Africa,” he said.

McGowan was in Dallas raising money for Deir Yassin Remembered and to speak to groups interested in the project, which honors those Jews who put the principles of prophetic Judaism above the quest for a Jewish state and nationalism.

McGowan is the founder of Deir Yassin Remembered, a human rights organization working to build a truth and reconciliation center at the site of the massacre of Deir Yassin in Jerusalem.
