Sophomore guard Melanie Patterson and sophomore forward Gabrielle Eure were honored at the annual William Smith College Athletics Awards banquet on April 21. Patterson received the Marisa Vespa ’08 Award and Eure earned the Barbara Easton Regan Basketball Coach’s Award.
Patterson was one of just two Herons to start all 24 games this season. William Smith’s point guard averaged 36.8 minutes, 9.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.3 steals. Patterson ranked fifth in the Liberty League in assists. A Liberty League All-Academic selection, Patterson posted a career-high 25 points as well as six rebounds and five assists against Nazareth in the Wendy’s College Classic. She logged 21 points in a 73-61 win over Vassar.
Patterson has played in 50 career games at William Smith, posting 445 points, 172 rebounds, 127 assists, and 57 steals.
Eure played in all 24 games this winter, starting 18. She was second on the team in both scoring (10.4 ppg) and rebounding (7.6 rpg). She ranked third on the team with 13 blocks and added 16 steals. Eure registered a career-high 22 points and added 14 rebounds against Ithaca. Eure grabbed a career-high 18 boards and added 17 points against Rensselaer, one of her six double-doubles this year.
Eure has played in 29 career games, recording 260 points, 190 boards, 13 assists, and 16 steals.
William Smith was 4-20 this season, 3-13 in the Liberty League.
