As a marketing intern for Crown Media Family Networks this summer, Meegan Scally ’17 helped create essential marketing materials to promote programming events, series and movies for the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
At the media production company’s New York City offices, Scally had a firsthand look at the media world and how marketing materials “impacted each department and the network in general.”
A media and society major and economics minor, Scally worked on brand pieces that are used by cable providers and wrote social media posts to promote the Hallmark channels.
On campus, Scally is a social media intern at the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, where she is responsible for maintaining the Center’s online accounts, posting networking and informational events, and student and alum outcomes. This experience, she says, was ideal preparation for assisting with the social media marketing at Crown.
Scally has studied abroad twice while at HWS, first in Wales as part of an outdoor education program at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, then at Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland. She is a contributor to the HWS chapter of Her Campus, a lifestyle blog written by college journalists. She also works in the HWS Office of Admissions and is a brand ambassador for One Bead, a non-profit founded by Sara Wroblewski ’13 that donates proceeds from selling bracelets and necklaces to students in need in the U.S. and East Africa.
Scally says her experiences at HWS leave her with confidence for her future. “I know that the opportunities that I have had as a student in the HWS community have prepared me well for life after college.”
