Day of Service is a one-day service event that brings the Colleges' staff, faculty, and students together with the people of Geneva to perform service projects in the city and surrounding areas. A student-initiated project, Day of Service has become a key component of the Public Service Office and celebrates its 10th anniversary in October. To register online, visit http://www.hws.edu/dayofservice/.
Day of Service for the academic year 2002-2003 will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, and will include a Kids Service Festival at the Barn. Participants should meet at 9 a.m. on the quad to get their free T-shirts and get started. Opening ceremonies will be held and then it's off to the sites from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. (lunch will be provided). Each site will require different types of service, from painting, to downtown beautification, to landscaping, to building, to neighborhood cleanup. A celebration will be held at the Geneva lakefront upon return—the celebration includes food, music by Nik and the Nice Guys, prizes and family activities.
Kids' Service Festival will be held in the HWS Barn from 10:15 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, and will feature local/campus entertainment for children, kid friendly food (lunch will be from noon until 1 p.m.), and service projects geared towards children ages eight and under. Adults, please plan to stay with your child(ren). Service projects include making tray decorations for nursing home residents and care packages and cards for service persons stationed in Afghanistan, projects to cheer up children in the hospital and more. After the Kids' Service Festival, all families are invited to join the Day of Service Celebration with Nik and the Nice Guys at the Geneva Lakefront (starting at 3 p.m.). Questions? Contact Jenna Logue or David Baird-Miller at ext. 3825.
