As a precautionary measure, Central Services has temporarily relocated to the “Echo and Pine” offices in the basement of the Scandling Center, and will remain in this location until further notice. The move was made while the Colleges await word of a yet unconfirmed and isolated possible case of Legionnaire's Disease in one staff member, who became ill in August.
This is not a contagious illness and the employee is back to work. No other employee on campus has exhibited symptoms.
The source of the employee's illness is not known, but as a precaution, the campus will be testing the enclosed air handling and sump pump system, and minimizing the amount of work done in that area.
Colleges officials have been in touch with the Ontario County Health Department to monitor the situation.
According to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, there is little risk to others from this illness, and although it receives significant media attention, usual outbreaks occur as single, isloated cases, with many presenting mild symptoms or having no illness at all.
