With less than six weeks to go until Orientation Weekend, Assistant Dean Lisa Kaenzig is finalizing the details of the Colleges' program to welcome the Classes of 2008.
The Classes of 2008 are quite an impressive group. In fact, nearly every student in the entering Classes of 2008 comes from the top 50 percent of his or her high school graduating class and more than one-third are from the top 10 percent. More students will enter as “merit scholars,” recognized financially for academic excellence, artistic talent and leadership credentials.
The mean SAT scores for incoming HWS students is 1177, an increase of 29 percentage points over the classes entering in the fall of 2000 and higher than the state and national averages by more than 100 points.
Orientation leaders invite all interested HWS departments and programs to join them in welcoming these young leaders and newest members of the Colleges community at one or both of the following times to showcase departmental programs, services and events:
Friday evening, Aug. 27, from 9:30 – 11:30 p.m. in the Scandling Center during the “Welcoming Party.”
Sunday afternoon, Aug. 29, from 2 – 4 p.m. on the Melly Lawn (between Stern Hall and the Library).
Any department interested in participating in either or both of these events during Orientation, please e-mail Lauren Piper by July 28 and let her know which dates you will attend and how many tables and chairs you will need.
Kaenzig and her staff look forward to seeing a good turnout and thank you for all of your support in helping the Colleges make Orientation 2008 a success.
