On Thursday, April 18, flags on the Hobart and William Smith campus will fly at half-staff in memory of U.S. Army Sgt. Rachel Reve McKay ’18, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this month.
A native of Marblehead, Mass., McKay graduated from William Smith with a B.A. degree in political science. She was a forward on the Herons ice hockey team. As a member of the William Smith golf team, she earned the team’s Most Valuable Player Award, and holds many individual scoring records in the College’s golf program.
After her HWS graduation, she enrolled in the Army’s Basic Combat Training, graduating second in her Company within the 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment.
Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker ordered flags at state buildings flown at half-staff in McKay’s honor from sunrise to sunset on Thursday. She was enrolled at the U.S. Army’s Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning near Columbus, Ga., when she passed away on April 8.
