Katherine Marino ’12 will return to the HWS campus to perform an original work of theatre incorporating dance, circus techniques and homemade baked goods. Titled, “A Show With Cookies,” Marino has received local acclaim for her performance, which debuted and sold out at the KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival in 2019. The performance will take place on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in the McDonald Theatre.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., seating is limited and first-come, first-serve. There are no advance tickets or reservations. Latecomers will not be seated.
In the show, Marino plays a “mime hostess” who spins trays, juggles hats, bakes cookies and “follows her heart into many hilarious misadventures.” Marino has also performed “A Show With Cookies” in Perry, Syracuse and Ithaca, N.Y.
Marino’s career includes four years with Rochester’s PUSH Physical Theatre. As a solo artist, she has taught and performed her original material in China, Canada and across the United States. In addition to her performance of “A Show With Cookies” at the Rochester Fringe Festival, Marino performed “Extraordinary Muffin Theatre Spectacular” to sold-out audiences on the Fringe stage in 2018.
Marino studied both dance and environmental studies at the Colleges. After graduating summa cum laude, she won a Fulbright Award to teach English in Argentina. In November 2019, Marino served on a panel of “Innovative Alumnae” to celebrate William Smith Founder’s Day.
“Katherine is a creator of new art and performance, and her remarks were exceptionally well-received by our students at Founder’s Day; so, we are very excited to co-sponsor with the HWS Theatre Department her return to campus to perform this wonderful show,” says William Smith Dean Lisa Kaenzig P’22.
