“I am a comparativist with special expertise in the history and politics of China. My research primarily focuses on popular protest and grassroots politics in modern and contemporary China. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship. I also sit on the editorial boards of nearly a dozen major scholarly and I currently serve as President of the Association for Asian Studies.”
