Athletic Day of Donors Kicks Off Feb. 24

The annual Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ Athletics Day of Donors (#HWSADOD ) will kick off on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Each of the Statesmen and Herons teams will compete to meet fundraising and donor goals during the 24-hour challenge, which begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday and runs through 8 a.m. Thursday.

Each of the Colleges’ 23 varsity teams as well as the sports medicine and strength and conditioning programs will have a fundraising goal for the day. The Caird Challenge (#CairdChallenge) will reward the top three Hobart teams and the top three William Smith teams in terms of percentage of dollar goal met (up to and beyond 100%) with additional money for their program. There will also be bonus prizes for teams that meet their donor goal and for the teams that create the best videos in support of their fundraising efforts.

“With the Caird Challenge in play and teams hungry for the win, we expect the game day competition to be fierce,” says Deb Steward, associate vice president and director of athletics and recreation. “We’re so very grateful to the Cairds for their dedication and support of Hobart and William Smith.”

James F. ’56, L.H.D. ’12 and Cynthia L. Caird L.H.D. ’12 are generously funding the Caird Challenge, putting $25,000 in bonus cash for Hobart and William Smith athletic teams up for grabs. The Cairds’ long-time philanthropy has been recognized through the naming of Caird Hall, a residence hall located on Emerson Hill overlooking the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation, which includes Urick Stadium, the Poole Family Sports Dome, Bristol Field House, and William Smith Field.

The link to the HWSADOD giving page will be posted on HWSAthletics.com when the event begins. The link will also be shared via email and across HWS’ social media channels.

Beginning at noon, HWSADOD will go live with streaming video from campus providing interviews with coaches and students, and shout outs to donors throughout the afternoon.
