Why I Give
Christie Palmer Lowrance '65
“I gave to the 2015 Annual Giving campaign for three reasons: 1) it is my 50th reunion year and I wanted to be part of our class participation (kudos to Jim Anderton ’65, Stephanie Shires ’65 and others for a superb effort!). 2) If I had not contributed before hearing President Mark D. Gearan’s presentation on the State of the Colleges, I would have rushed up to Jim with a check afterwards. I’m immensely proud of the quality of academic and social education being provided at the Colleges. Proof of that quality is in the talented, engaging, motivated red-shirt students, including recent grads, who delightfully surrounded us at Reunion; preparation for leading “lives of consequence” is clearly not just a marketing catch phrase. 3) I contributed in honor of family alums: my father Howard “Bud” Palmer ’33 and my grandfather Howard V.R. Palmer 1903 who valued and loved their time at the Colleges as much as I did. In a word, I contributed in gratitude, for what the Colleges have done, are doing, and promise to do in the future.”
