“Every time I send a gift to Hobart I become lost in a moment of splendid reverie, almost always a slightly different trip down a complex pathway of memories. One may be a recollection of that first day in Bartlett 103 filled with a limitless sense of expectation and a suitcase full of insecurities. Another may be a return for our 25th Reunion weekend and a sun-dappled afternoon party in the Sunken Garden at Houghton House. Sometimes I simply smile as I remember the conversation I had this year with a youthful Phonathon volunteer overflowing with earnest affection for the Colleges we both share. The remarkable truth is that I give not only because my life was transformed by my four years on campus more than 40 years ago but because it continues to be changed each time the friends I made for life renew our intimate bonds. For me, my small gift is simply a down payment on memories yet to come.”
