Literacy Volunteers of Ontario County is now recruiting tutors and has scheduled a workshop for those who want to help adults learn to read and write or learn how to speak English.
Orientation for this training will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 25 at the agency office, 208 S. Main St., Canandaigua. The workshop sessions will be during the same hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 27 through May 18, and attendance at all workshop sessions is required.
Tutors must be at least 18 years of age, have an interest in helping adult students to learn, be a high school graduate (or hold a GED), be able to attend the entire training program and complete homework assignments and be willing to devote at least two hours per week to working with an adult student.
Tutors do not need any teaching background or knowledge of a foreign language.
