Historical Society honors former director

The Geneva Historical Society will host a retirement celebration for the 13 years' service by former executive director Charles Bauder, starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22 at Club 86.

During his tenure as Executive Director, the Society acquired Balmanno Cottage; mounted significant exhibits on Geneva’s industries, nursery businesses, and the city during World War II; and completed major structural and restoration projects at Rose Hill Mansion and the Prouty-Chew House.

The Society also secured grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, the New York Council for the Humanities, the Institute for Museum and Library Services, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Bauder continues to volunteer for the Society, as he did for many years before his appointment as Director. He also serves on the Geneva Building Improvement District, chairs the Geneva Industrial Development Association, and volunteers at Trinity Episcopal Church. He and his wife, Nancy, live on Oak Street in Geneva.

Tickets for the celebration are $35 to $40, depending on entrée choice. Each ticket also includes a tax-deductible donation of $15 to the Historical Society, in lieu of other gifts.
