Gallery at the Point will feature two Wayne County artists through September.
John Erwin Crane, a long-time Sodus Point resident, will be represented with vivid oil paintings of local landscapes. A talented, self-taught artist, he turned to painting full-time in 1999, after retiring from Xerox, where he worked for 35 years. He also operated a charter boat business for 20 years. His work is included in Martin’s Gallery on Long Island, and in collections in New York City.
Wayne Williams of Newark is a sculptor who works extensively in welded and cast metal, portraying form and figure in a realistic fashion. He has a special affinity for animals, particularly horses.
In 1967 he founded the art department at Finger Lakes College, where he taught until his retirement in 2003. His sculptures and drawings are part of public and private collections around the world; probably his best-known local work is a sculpture at Rochester’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Highland Park.
He is a member of the board and teaches classes at the Wayne Community Arts Center. The current exhibit is courtesy of the Oxford Gallery in Rochester.
Gallery at the Point, at 8519D Greig St., Sodus Point, is open from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Thursday, and until 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; closed Tuesday and Wednesday. For details, call (585) 615-7475.
