Literacy Volunteers of Ontario County invites members of the community to become literacy volunteers as the agency celebrates 40 years of service.
The next Tutor Training Workshop will begin with an orientation session on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Literacy Volunteers office, 208 S. Main St., Canandaigua. Workshop sessions will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays from Oct. 17 through Nov. 10.
Those willing to become tutors must be at least 18 years of age, have an interest in helping adult students to learn, be a high school graduate or have completed a GED, be able to attend the entire training program, complete homework assignments and be willing to devote at least two hours per week to working with an adult student.
Tutors do not need a teaching background or any knowledge of a foreign language.
