“The Proposition,” an Australian Western as caked with beauty as it is with blood, opens Friday, Oct. 20 at the Smith Opera House.
Pitched somewhere between Outback western and totemic bloodbath, “The Proposition” is to Australia's saga of conquest what a Sam Peckinpah movie is to our own frontier myths: a bloody, tender dismantling. It's also a masterpiece of mood and menace, and one that deserves to be seen on the largest screen possible.
“The Proposition” will be shown at 7 p.m. daily except at 2 p.m. Sunday through Oct. 24; it is rated R and runs 1:44. Tickets are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens. Call (315) 781-LIVE or toll-free (866) 355-LIVE for details or to order tickets.
