Step into Spring – Become a literacy tutor

Literacy Volunteers of Ontario County is suggesting that members of the community “Step into Spring” as literacy volunteers.

The agency's next Tutor Training Workshop, which offers volunteers the opportunity to help adults learn to read and write or speak English, will begin with orientation from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 5 at the FLCC Resource Center, 63 Pulteney St.

Workshop sessions will be during the same hours each Monday and Thursday, March 8-29; attendance at all workshop sessions is required.

In order to become a tutor, a volunteer must be at least 18 years old, have an interest in helping adult students to learn, be a high school graduate or hold a GED, be able to attend the entire training program and complete homework assignments, and be willing to devote at least two hours each week to working with an adult student.

Tutors need not have a teaching background or have knowledge of a foreign language.
