Seneca Community Players will hold auditions for five women and three men to act in its newest stage production, “Enchanted April,” a romantic comedy by Matthew Barber.
Auditions will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 and Thursday, March 1 at the Players' headquarters in Building 91, canalside behind the Fall Street stores in Seneca Falls.
Based on the best-selling 1921 novel by Elizabeth von Armin, “The Enchanted April,” the play details how, after reading an advertisement in the newspaper, four Englishwomen break free from their rain-drenched sorrows and oppression for a month in a rented Italian castle by the Mediterranean.
Interested individuals should go to the tryouts ready to act; no additional preparation is required and scripts will be provided.
The cast calls for Lotty Wilton, 30, a housewife and wife; Mellersh Wilton, 32, her stiff upper-lip solicitor husband; Rose Arnott, 38, a housewife and wife; Frederick Arnott, 45, her social-climbing novelist husband; Lady Caroline Bramble, 25, socialite; Anthony Wilding, 25, artist and owner of castle; Mrs. Graves, 70, a London matron; and Costanza, in her 60s, the Italian housekeeper.
Participants should take a list of potential rehearsal conflict dates, and a rehearsal schedule will be announced at the auditions. Call director Becky Bly at (315) 568-9364 or producer Pam Bryan at (315) 568-8608 for details.
“Enchanted April” will be performed five times starting Friday, April 20 in the Delavan Theatre on the New York Chiropractic College campus in Seneca Falls.
