Writer Rushdie coming to Cornell

As part of the Cornell English Department's Creative Writing program, author Salman Rushdie will speak at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 in Uris Auditorium on the campus in Ithaca.

Rushdie became more widely known after his fourth novel, “The Satanic Verses,” published in 1988, provoked violent reactions from Muslims all over the world. After death threats and a fatwa issued by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Supreme Leader of Iran, calling for his assassination, he spent years underground.

The talk is free and open to the public.
