Mara O'Laughlin, director of admissions, and Garrett Teague '07 were quoted in the article Check it twice: Avoid mistakes to increase college acceptance chances” in the Jan. 5 Finger Lakes Times. The article focused on college admissions applications and common mistakes that can jeopardize the applicant's chance of acceptance. The college testing organization ACT enumerated errors students make in their applications and gave tips on applying, which O'Laughlin agreed she sees as well. O’Laughlin said she finds grammatical errors and other mistakes, and students should exercise great care so their applications will be more competitive. She also recommended students who apply online should use an e-mail address with a professional-sounding name.
Teague said assembling his application was time-consuming. His mother Ruth, associate director of admissions, proofread his application and made a few recommendations for changes.
