David Galloway and Kristen Welsh, assistant professors of Russian, were featured in the Jan. 7 Democrat and Chronicle story “Learn Russian on computer? Profs to help”. The two and Kristin Peterson-Bidoshi, an assistant professor of Russian at Union College in Schenectady, have been awarded a 30,980 grant to develop a computer program to study the Russian language. The computer application, which will be accessible over the Internet to college students and possibly high school students, will feature grammar exercises that will change, depending on choices made by the users.
“The problem with (Russian language) exercises (on computer) out there now is that you go to them, you do them, you're done with them. They're no use to you anymore,” Galloway said. With the program his team will develop “you can go back to it time and time again and each time it will generate new exercises for you,” he said.
