The William Smith College lacrosse team remains at No. 11 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) weekly poll. The Herons hold a 12-1 overall mark after posting a 2-1 record last week. William Smith defeated Nazareth and Rochester, but suffered its first loss of the season to fifth-ranked Hamilton last Friday. Sophomore Sarah Goodkind (Millbrook School/Greenwich, N.Y.) led the Herons with six goals in the three games, while classmate Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) notched three goals and three assists, and first-year Cassie Findlay (Episcopal/Riverside, Conn.) added four goals and a helper. Junior goalie Becky Josefiak (West Seneca East/West Seneca, N.Y.) anchored the defense, recording 26 saves, including 12 against Rochester, and posting a .531 save percentage and a 9.56 goals against average. She was tabbed the Liberty League Co-Defensive Performer of the Week for her efforts. Meanwhile, junior defender Torie Allen (Governor Dummer Academy/Dedham, Mass.) moved up to seventh on the all-time list for draw controls in a season. She collected six last week, increasing her season total to 36. The Herons will be in action today, when they travel to Ithaca to take on the Bombers (5-3) at 5 p.m.
