William Smith lax stays at No. 11

The William Smith College lacrosse team remains at No. 11 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) weekly poll. The Herons hold a 12-1 overall mark after posting a 2-1 record last week. William Smith defeated Nazareth and Rochester, but suffered its first loss of the season to fifth-ranked Hamilton last Friday. Sophomore Sarah Goodkind (Millbrook School/Greenwich, N.Y.) led the Herons with six goals in the three games, while classmate Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) notched three goals and three assists, and first-year Cassie Findlay (Episcopal/Riverside, Conn.) added four goals and a helper. Junior goalie Becky Josefiak (West Seneca East/West Seneca, N.Y.) anchored the defense, recording 26 saves, including 12 against Rochester, and posting a .531 save percentage and a 9.56 goals against average. She was tabbed the Liberty League Co-Defensive Performer of the Week for her efforts. Meanwhile, junior defender Torie Allen (Governor Dummer Academy/Dedham, Mass.) moved up to seventh on the all-time list for draw controls in a season. She collected six last week, increasing her season total to 36. The Herons will be in action today, when they travel to Ithaca to take on the Bombers (5-3) at 5 p.m.
