Just ‘B’ Natural to ‘B’ a Sharp Performance

Attention all lovers of classical and jazz music! On Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Peter’s Church, soprano Jennifer Sisbarro and pianist Troy Slocum will present their “Just ‘B’ Natural” Concert. They will perform pieces ranging from classical numbers by Franz Schubert and Reynaldo Hahn to jazz standards by Fats Waller and George Shearing. This will be Sisbarro’s debut concert in the Finger Lakes region. Having joined the HWS faculty in August of 2007 as a voice instructor, she also serves on the staff of the St. Peter’s Community Arts Academy. She received her B.A. in vocal performance, summa cum laude, from SUNY Geneseo and her master’s of music, magna cum laude, in vocal performance from Ithaca College. She is experienced in the areas of classical, jazz, musical theater, bluegrass, and popular music. Previous to her arrival at HWS, Sisbarro toured internationally with the Geneseo Chamber Singers in addition to having performed with the Geneseo Carol Choristers and the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble. Through her choral work, she has been featured as a soloist in major works such as Mozart’s “Requiem,” Handel’s “Messiah” and Schubert’s “Mass in G.” Like Sisbarro, Slocum teaches at both HWS and the St. Peter’s Community Arts Academy. He graduated cum laude from Nazareth College with a bachelor of music in piano performance. He has also pursued graduate studies in piano performance at Syracuse University. His work includes solo and chamber performances in various venues throughout the region. A multitalented pianist, Slocum is accomplished in several styles of music from cocktail piano to classical. As a piano teacher, he has had several award winning students in numerous piano competitions. Tickets are $9 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $6 for students, and children under the age of 12 receive free admission.
