Robert Byland will talk about “The Underwater World of the Finger Lakes – Treasures and Observations” at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, in the Finger Lakes Institute. Byland, an avid SCUBA diver and a member of the Finger Lakes Underwater Preserve Association (FLUPA), will discuss underwater preservation, drawing from his expertise in underwater preservation and knowledge of the history and locations of the sunken barges and wrecks of the Finger Lakes. Knowing that invasive species, such as zebra mussels and aquatic plants, have impacted the quality of both the wrecks and the water, he will give his observations about the changing aquatic life and ecology of the lakes. Byland will also explain how FLUPA works to create awareness of the ecological value of the underwater world of the Finger Lakes. This event is free and open to the public. Please register beforehand by calling (315) 781-4382 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
