William Smith College junior Chelsea Rauck took home top tennis honors for the third straight year at the Annual Heron Awards Banquet on April 29. Rauck was presented with the Mary Hosking Tennis Award, while senior Erinn Cain was honored with the Elizabeth Laird Redway Heia ’84 Tennis Coach’s Award. The team’s top player, Rauck played 12 matches at first singles this season, where she posted a 10-2 record. She also earned a 3-0 mark at second singles. A three-time All-Liberty League Singles selection, Rauck finished the season with a 13-2 singles record, and closed the season on a seven-match winning streak. She earned three Liberty League Performer of the Week Awards along the way. Rauck and her doubles partner, sophomore Shari Damon, notched an 11-5 mark in the top spot to earn All-Liberty League Doubles praise. Rauck is ranked 18th in the Northeast by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), and boasts a 52-10 career singles mark heading into her final season. Cain is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection, and a two-time ITA All-Academic Team pick. She split time this season between fifth and sixth singles, posting an 11-5 overall record. Cain notched a 5-3 mark at No. 5 singles, and went 5-1 at No. 6. She teamed up with sophomore Meredith Levenson at third doubles, where they registered a 9-6 record. Cain wrapped up her career with a 28-15 singles record. William Smith finished the season ranked 19th in the region with an 11-7 record. It’s the program’s 13th consecutive winning season. The Herons finished fourth in the Liberty League Championship Tournament.
