The Hobart and William Smith community will host a Farewell Reception for Dean Debra DeMeis and her husband, Joe DeMeis, in gratitude for their many years of community service. Over the past 31 years, Debra has served as a professor of psychology, William Smith dean and interim vice president of student affairs. She has chaired or co-chaired several significant committees, implemented leadership initiatives for women and, as interim vice president of student affairs, oversaw the Hobart and William Smith athletic departments. Joe has served as principal of West Street School since 1999, having previously served as the district’s school psychologist since 1978. During this time, Joe enacted programs that called for cooperation and open dialogue not only within the school but also among parents and community members. In coordination with the West Street School faculty and Parent-Teacher Association, the Colleges community will gather from 3 until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, in the Common Room of the Scandling Center . “Debra and Joe have made an enormous difference in the Geneva community, and we are pleased to join with the West Street School faculty and PTA in expressing our gratitude,” said President Mark D. Gearan. Later this month, DeMeis will begin serving as Dean of Students at Wellesley College.
